Announcing: the 2nd Annual Mid-Missouri "Show Me Solar 2008" Tour will be hosted by the Columbia Climate Change Coalition. The Columbia Climate Change Coalition is joining the American Solar Energy Society in a local and national solar education effort. Our tour offers local and area residents an opportunity to find out how their neighbors are trimming their energy bills, increasing their energy independence, and taking steps to address global climate change. These efforts support movement towards building a “green economy” in Missouri, to keep more of our energy dollars at home, and improve property values in Missouri’s communities. Learn how you can take advantage of the recent extention of Federal tax credits to help all Americans move in this direction.

What: Join solar enthusiasts from central Missouri as we visit passive and active solar sites including homes, businesses, places of worship. City sites will include the new LEED certified firehouse and the new Solar One array at the Ash St. pump-station. Columbia Public School sites include the solar installation at the Career Center and the Eco School House at Grant Elementary. Owners and installers will provide a first hand look at the solar technology they have installed and provide answers to your questions, all designed to help you go solar too!

Throughout the day there will also be information, educational booths and free documentaries at The Unity Center, 1600 West Broadway. Free CFL (compact florescent bulbs) will be provided for Columbia Water and Light and Boone Electric Cooperative customers along with free copies of Solar Today will be given away.

When: Saturday, October 18th. Tours begin on the hour, every hour, beginning at 9:00am and running until 4:00pm (please arrive early--15 minutes, or more, prior to join in a tour). There will also be drive-by options to allow you to fit in as many of the tour sites as possible on your own timeframe for that day.

Where: The Unity Center, 1600 West Broadway (at the intersection of Broadway and Clinkscales), Columbia, Missouri. The parking lot will be available to facilitate carpooling for the event.

Tour guides: The printed tour guide will be provided for a donation of $10 towards the good work of the Columbia Climate Change Coalition. It includes directions, descriptions, a map, and the schedule for our on-site solar tours. You are encouraged to attend any or all of the scheduled tours or, better yet, meet fellow solar enthusiasts at the Unity Center and carpool with your friends or new acquaintances!
